I have some Morgans, for so long a time, and they have always looked the same, but now learning about VAM numbers, which makes one morgan slightly different from another. Am interested to know further, the numbering and detailed descriptions assigned to these numbers. Getting a book would be difficult over here. Is there an http site where the VAM numbers can be comprehensively read? Thanks!

If there is one book to ever refer someone to read on morgans I would say it is: The Complete Comprehensive Catalogue and Encylopedia of of Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars.By Van Allen and Mallis. It is a great book. Every Morgan with every VAM in chronological order with complete pictures and descriptions of each one. Very in depth and packed with history and details. Layed out quite plain for use as a refernce library and you can just snatch it from the shelf and ID/ Confirm any VAM in seconds with certainty.

It won't be cheap, Nic. Although it is the book to have regarding VAM's, close to half of the known varieties have been discovered since the latest edition was published. Therefore, although the background information contained in it is amazing, it's not quite relevant for VAM identification.

I totally agree with SuperDave on this one ands thats why I didn't mention it to you. I think Vamworld has more complete selection of VAMs than are in the book because its allot easier to add something to a website when you can't add anything to a book unless you make another edition. Vamworld has just about (if not all of) the VAM's in the book and allot of the others that have been discovered after the book was published in 1991. Dont get me wrong the book is a great reference piece with a load of information and if they ever make an updated version I will probably buy it as well but just because its not in that book doesn't mean its not a known VAM

The book is a better than good place to start for the Morgan VAM hunter, I have it and refer to it many times just to refresh what I learned, and realize there is much more to learn, I hope you can find it and if your like me, I love to have an in hand reference, with an un-matched History and great Pictures of the Morgans we all love. The site is an excellent source for a more up to date informative, well done version of more Vams than the book has to offer, as stated above by some of the more knowledgeable Morgan dollar VAM specialists, believe me, good luck and like the introduction page states" caution this can become an addicting hobby".....

Thanks guys Info very much appreciated. There is difficulty here collecting USA coins as all the circulation is over there with you guys, here, there are only three major coin stores, rather, I mean three 'serious' coin stores for the Metro area and that about covers the Philippines. The prices are acceptable given the distance from the source, but the variety is a little bit restrained. So the info on the internet sites, would help should any of my friends go there, they can then source out the exact coin that is of interest. Thanks again!
