Absolutely , in 2003 several incidents in and around NC saw $200 bills being passed with GW on them.
One was used at a dairy queen where the customer got $198 change and the other I read was at a store the customer bought $150 of groceries and got change.

I might add--if a pro passes the fake bill, they're very good at distracting "the mark"...you might get taken yourself.

When it comes to money, especially my money.....There ain't no distraction big enough for me to make that kind of mistake!

For the record, since the BEP does not make a $200 bill, it would not be considered counterfeiting to spend one, it would probably be considered fraud.

I don't think this piece of paper should be considered a counterfeit, either.

Which reminds me...there is a "mentalist" in the UK named Darren Brown, who supposedly can fool a cashier into accepting blank paper as real money.

If you search for him on Youtube, there are some fascinating things, including one at horse track, on a street where he tells a guy to give away his watch, the above mentioned money trick (which I didn't post because of bad language in the comments).

My point: passing the blank paper would be fraud, stealing, whatever, but I don't think it would be counterfeiting.

( edit )
Bogus, I don't feel comfortable with one of the youtube suggestions that came up at the end of the video. You can find these on youtube if you care to. So youtube link gone removed.

Steve,
That's exactly what I mean...guys like Derren Brown are experts at the art of distraction.
Drop over to Youtube and watch him pay a jeweler blank slips of paper for a $4500 ring--amazing!

DV, in addition to the art of distraction, it is the power of suggestion. Fascinating stuff.

Things like this are not odd at all lately. Of course a bill of that size is something to wonder about. But haven't there been stories of people giving change for $3 bills, $4 bills, etc at places like McDonalds? And you can't blame anyone since we have a massive variety of coins now. Quarters alone could be made by any counterfeiter with Micky Mouse on them and used easily. Regular half dollars get looked at oddly more than a $100 bill and a $2 bill is a real odd ball. With a large amount of people from other countries now here a Peso is more common than our regular currency.

All I can do is sit here and shake my head.
I think I could be almost run down by a truck and still spot that one. (Ben looks kinda irritated)
Unfortunately with low hourly rates comes low or non existent brain power or effort.
I have never heard of somebody trying to pass a 200.00 dollar bill though.
I have heard of a scam artist looking to make change from a 10 or 20 and double talking the cashier so bad and so fast, they walked out with half the days receipts in their pockets.

Last night at Wal-mart the guy spent about a minute looking at the two hundreds I gave him. So I asked him if he's ever had someone pass him a counterfeit. He then tells me that someone tried to give him a $5 bill with the security strip removed, and the customer wasn't happy when he wouldn't accept it.

I wonder how much time he spends inspecting $1 bills?

He rejects all the $1s because they are missing the security strip :)
