That 70cc is a crusty beaut! Looks AU-50ish, or at least 45?

they were shipped overseas and melted like crazy at the time they were made because the silver value was worth more than face if I remember corretly.

True but only after about 1849. From 1840 to 49 they actually circulated as money. Probably the only time when silver dollars actively circulated in this country.

The bust and the Seated dollars are beautiful coins. I've a old bust from my Dad, and as soon the effects on my bank account thanks to the ex resides I'd like to get a Seated dollar. Nice coin you have there. EF45+

Catbert,

First of all.....

to the Family!

Secondly, that 1847 is gorgeous! The obverse shows flatness around the head and breast. But, I know little about these; that could be a strike characteristic. The reverse is stunning; I'd be tempted to go MS65! Let's say overall AU-58 (and I'm sure I am wrong!)

The 1847 is graded by PCGS as AU50. I think it should be a 53, but collectors always think their coins are undergraded, eh?

There is a grading journey behind this coin, if you are interested:
