I love the old dollars, both bust and seated. They have just become a bit pricey to acquire more than a few.

I am a fan of eventually getting two (one with and one without motto) for my type set! They are quite expensive, but I still love the design!

I think the dark toning is hiding a lot of the detail, from what I can see I think this coin is AU-53, Cuds and all. Would love to have a collection of these, but too expensive. |

I agree overall with echizento regarding the detail. However, it may not have enough luster to make full AU from a TPG. Solid XF-45+ in my opinion, and with excellent "crustiness" this coin is oozing with originality. I having been eyeing these coins for months now, as they represent 2 of the 4 coins I need to finish my dansco 7070. I would be proud to have this one in my collection! |

Well, yeah, I'd love to have a complete Seated dollar Set! I'd put it in a custom wood frame on my wall, right next to my complete date/mintmark 1907-32 St. Gaudens $20 Double Eagle Set...  |

I'm a fan of all the Seated denominations. My budget limited me to just a single example of with motto and without motto specimens. I would like to add an 1870-CC one of these days.... Here's my with motto coin. It's an 1872-S certified XF-45 by PCGS; I had submitted it for crossover from an ANACS slab at the same grade. It's one of my favorite coins. I was actually a bit surprised that PCGS agreed it was XF-45; I thought it was more solid as an XF-40. CCya, your coin appears to have stronger detail than mine under the toning. If mine is a 45 yours should definitely qualify as a 50. Nice and crusty!   Edited by Jaobler

They are definitely expensive and hard to come by. We don't acquire or sell much in the way of high-end coins, but I checked the back side of the website and saw that a few years ago we had an 1850 P graded Fine that sold for $560. But that's apparently the only one we ever had.

they were shipped overseas and melted like crazy at the time they were made because the silver value was worth more than face if I remember corretly. The Gobrecht dollars with the flying eagle on the back are even harder to come by than these, I've never even seen one of those in a shop before. -XoG |
