The eye does look odd in the scan, but it does not when you hold the coin and look at it, must have something to do with having a flat plate scanner and a 3 dimensional coin. The coin is definitely not cast. I've had this coin looked at by enough trustworthy dealers to be confident it is real. It is variety B14 and the roughness around star 7 and the "L" (what you are questioning as casting marks), the pronounced die crack between star 4 and star 5 and the raised ridge that runs to the right of stars 1-5 are the main diagnostics for obverse die #16 which is only found on this variety. The reverse is die "S", the only reverse known for B14 and has the "lumps" in the E of United as the easiest to spot diagnostic.
I enjoy the old dollars, I am just lucky enough to have bought all mine over 10 years ago. I couldn't afford them now either.
