I thought I would share what is seeming to become an irritating problem. About 2 weeks ago my local post office was switched over to a new computer system. When I brought packages in they seemed to be having a hard time processing them.

They could not find the light package designation and I ended paying double the norm on some of the packages. Last week, and now today, I have been receiving those packages back to me in the mail. There is no reason listed as to why they are returned but they keep coming back.

I went to a different post office today, and they informed me that they are switching to the new system too although they do not want to. They told me they have been putting through a lot of mail returns and also hearing a lot of complaints both from other postal outlets and also from customers.

Be forewarned, when shipping in or to canada if they have switched over to the brand new system you may be in for some shipping troubles and increased shipping costs.

Here in the U.S. we are use to our postal workers being morons and being charged wrong.

What's Canada got to do with it?

That's funny because I just got a notice from a purchase I just did here in Canada and the tracking number I got from the seller doesn't work on Canada Post's website. Maybe this is why....

Hello Malissa,
The only resolution is to complain!!!
They are so far behind IT all... they do not know if they are coming or going....
If you have a commercial acct like I do... it is hell two times over.
Presently, I am in a situation with the Postal ombudsman (woman?)
Sent numerous pieces overseas 5 months ago,
registered, signature required...paid for It.!! TOP dollar, more than any other country I know of.
Tracking says... item has left country...
HOWEVER. They tell me once it has left the country it is out of "our" hands..
However, they take the $$$$$$$$$$$$$ BIG $$$$$$$so far they can not produce a signature, NOR do they know where the items are!!!! Tracking..? NOT!!!!

I countered: I do not care about all that. YOU sold me a service.
Their counter: we have NO jurisdiction over other countries postal service.
My counter: IT is YOUR contractor./ and Canada Post is a member of the International Postal Confederation based in Switzerland!
Not done yet.I want several hundred dollars back!! For services charged for and not delivered.
Perhaps this subject. Postal services, and the services they offer, also insurance, should be another topic..GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Thanks for the warning Malissa. I just received a package from Canada via Xpress Post. Luckily I didn't experience any problems.

All in all, I think Canada Post is good. I live in a city, so the postal workers here are probably much more experienced than in other places. There are always difficulties with people and new things, time is probably the only remedy to your problem. So continue to package well, label clearly (and get tracking!), and hope for the best!...

You might want to switch to purolator in the interm :)

Not sure about Canada but here in the USA it's apparent many here have short memories. Think back a while about the postal workers shooting things up, hoarding piles of mail, distroying some also. If there are any reading this post, best hope they can't find you.
What I like about our postal workers is how much they know of what you get in the mail. A few days ago my mail person rang my bell, handed me a package and asked if those were the proof sets or the Uncirc sets? HMMMM, makes me wonder.
