Originally graded MS65 by NGC, crossed over at that grade to PCGS. The scuff on Liberty's chin isn't a contact mark and only shows at some angles under the light. In light of some MS65's I've seen recently, this looks it might slide (theoretically - I'm not sending this in for the time being). What do you think is holding it back from a 66, if anything?

She's anything but a slider. A slider is a coin that is AU/BU, could go either way on any given day. She's beautiful, enjoy her

Becky is right, a slider is a coin that is a toss up between AU and MS .

as for why your coin does not go 66,, If I were to guess at the reason why ? at that level the weak reverse on these coins is a major contributor to precluding a great number of very beautiful coins from reaching that level.

That and the registry program !!!

Thanks for the vocabulary correction. Of course I meant could it maybe be (not get) a 66. I agree it's probably the just average strike on the reverse that holds it back. But, for what it's worth, PCGS's "True View" imaging, while VASTLY superior to NGC's (what could they possibly be thinking?), the reverse in this pic is blurry and the strike is much better than it appears.

Hi Stephen

Your question being could the coin possibly be a 66 the answer in IMHO yes it could be.

as for why it did not attain that grade is anyones guess, (one of the areas where I think the TPG's are lacking is in the descriptions and reasons for the grade given !!!)

If the reverse is stronger than it appears, and the scuff on the chin is in your opinion not a contact mark ,, then there is something else that kept the grade at 65 seen by both TPG's that to us remains a mystery.

according to the PCGS grading guide this coin is in order to receive a 66 grade,

Rick
