I pulled this out of a roll yesterday. I couldn't find any data on the coin. The date is severly doubled. The doubling is the width of the date itself. L, I, B in LIBERTY show considerable doubling. The B has the secondary B to the west in both loops and along the verticle of the B. Y shows slight doubling on the right wing of the Y.

Is this a severe case on Machine Doubling?

I see this type of doubling on a few coins in every batch of Mercury dimes that I purchase! I suspect that it is more of a result due to Die Deterioration. I say this, because there is litle to no evidence of pinch-off of the Date digits (other than on the "1" in the Date) and/or Letters that is normally seen with Machine Doubling!

The date is Machine Doubling.
