Definite wear on the headdress, lower feathers, and the eagle's left shoulder and wing. The mintmark is strongly impressed. There is a fairly large ding on the eagle's thigh plus a smaller hit on the Indian's lip. Still, a presentable coin that IMO should grade about EF-45.
Rest in Peace

Nice coin Moe! Yeah, I was thinking 40-45ish, with a possible cleaning. Your well on your way to a gold type set. Are you putting them into the dansco 7070 gold page?

Exactly! That's the major reason I've been seeking out reasonably (if any gold coin price can be considered reasonable...) priced gold coins.

I'm SLOWLY getting there. The Eagles and Double Eagles are going to take a little bit of time...

I'm surprised at how reasonably these are priced, in view of the mintage. The 4th-lowest mintage of the series, and they're going for the same as the 1909-D's, which had a mintage of over 3 million, by far the highest. I really like Indian gold, and yours is a nice example.

Sweet! Keep it up. Honestly, though the gold is expensive, I am much more willing to spend money on classic gold coins mostly because the coin has more factoring into the value than just it's numismatic value. Even if the numismatic market moves south, they still have significant melt value. Basically, I think classic common gold is a safer purchase, as long as you avoid the plethora of couonterfeits out there. If I was forced to sell my collection, the gold would definitely be the last to go.

One of the reasons why I enjoy classic gold is because you have
coins like this that have some good honest circulation wear.

And this design still looks awesome even with some wear. I look at the first picture I posted and just marvel at how cool looking this coin is!
