If anyone who thinks that "Chop Marks" are a guarantee of authenticity of old trade coins - take a look at this one.

If you look at that coin with no knowledge of the series, you would be led to believe it is real. But this one never existed. King Charles the guy pictured here was replace by Ferdinand VII in 1809. The two assayers T.H. Tomas Miranda and Henrique Azorin left office in 1810 and 1814 respectively. So how could a coin with ties to these three guys date to 1817?

But you should make a copy of this scan and check for coins with these CHOP MARKS. Since the coin is fake - the chops HAVE TO BE FAKES.

I just realized that there is a second likely possibility.

An original 1807 with the 0 changed to a 1. But WHY?

His discribtion says it's a 1739?
"Describe:Mexico ,1739 8 Reales.260 years coin.Very rare."

I think he has limited English skills and he is cutting and pasting the description. He has also posted a 1739 fake.
