I didn't take the gold at last night's raffle, but I did come away with the silver. This dollar is in PCGS plastic; how do you think they graded it?

Sadly, this coin does not appear to be an overlooked 1887/6 overdate! I see lots of peripheral die cracks and some die clash marks by Liberty's neck and on the reverse. Does anyone have any thoughts on VAM attribution for this coin?

Interesting coin with all those die cracks. It also looks like a weak strike, with that in mind I'm going to say MS-62.

I had, I think, a similar coin in my collection at one point:

The thing that struck me about this one was how low the obverse neck clash was - significantly lower than any other clashed Morgan which has passed through my hands. That implies a rotated die, but the reverse clashes weren't similarly out of whack. Fascinating coin, but I was never able to attribute it.

Might call it a 63, but I could see it going 62.

As is often the case, the Forum graders were tougher than the TPG. Digital photos tend to exaggerate the severity of scuffs and hairlines and my photos are no exception. In-hand this coin appears very solid for an MS-63. The assigned MS-64 grade may have been just a tad generous. The coin appears to be the common VAM-1 variety which is notable for its many die cracks and typical clash marks.
