Thanks for the complement. There are adjustments but I can't get the color to look like the coin looks. I think the problem is too much light and there isn't any way to adjust the LEDS. I can't capture trail die or date shift coins at all.

You make a strong case for that microscope with these pics.

Is it possible to disable the onboard lighting? I found with my QX5 that turning off the light, providing my own and bypassing the included software to capture images through Windows' Twain interface gave me a lot more leeway to light things as I want. If you're running Windows XP, I can help walk you through the process; if you're on Vista, not so much yet.

Those are excellent close-up pics!
Is that a person inside the Lincoln Rev side? never thought there was one there

If it's color, I use color filter lenses and for final tones I adjust via computer programmes. Microsoft Picture editor is the one I use, it's most complete for tone/contrast adjustments

Here is another pix of the second photo after I added a paper filter made from copy paper. I used three pieces on top of each other and then used a flashlight to highlight the MM. I moved the flashlight around until it looked right to me. What do you all think, is it any better? Still playing around with it.

John1. Can you adjust the shutter speed? Bu using a faster shutter speed it might help with the overexposure.

Yes I can adjust the shutter speed, what speed do you suggest? It's at -6 or -7 now.

John1. I'm not familiar with digital microscopes. I would suggest playing around with the shutter speed. A faster shutter speed will reduce your exposure. Also like Superdave said, disable the microscopes lighting, or turn it way down, and use an external light source. I appears the lighting is reflecting off the coin and bouncing straight back into the cameras lens. Try lighting from an angle, this would also help with the color your camera is picking up. I've used frosted sheets of material that I have to diffuse lighting/reducing glare. It works well. I have some extra, if you want to experiment with it, email me. I can send you some.

mikep,
Thanks for your help and thanks for offering to send me the frosted sheet but I am going to keep experimenting with the stuff I have around here.

I use a program called Paintshop Pro. (by corel)
It is fairly user friendly and has a one touch photo fix, that generally hits the color dead on.
I have been considering one of these microscope for a long time, I just haven't decide which one.

mrwisker,
I don't recommend the one I got, my nephew has a Dino-Lite and really likes it although it is a little pricey buy well worth it.
