Bought a bank wrapped roll of 2009-p nickels for $32.00 (including shipping) on ebay today. What is your opinion? Good or bad deal?

For a $2 roll? Why? What's so important about these that you paid 15X face. Won't they be circulating sooner or later ? I'm curious.

Numismo, this years business struck nickels and dimes are no longer being struck because of the rough economy. The nickel alone has a mintage of only 39 million and the dime has roughly the same mintage. I have yet to see any in circulation and do not think I will because of how few there are.

No coinguy, it was only a hiatus. They started minting again in June/July. Still, the total mintage is still a minuscule amount compared to that of other years.

I have an issue with "only" being paired with 39 million

I understood minting of 2009 dimes & nickels had resumed also.
I wouldn't spend any more money speculating on modern clad business strikes.

Well if you think about it. Discounting any attrition with close to 40 million being minted that leaves 1 2009 dime per 12 Americans. If they came per roll that would leave 1 roll per 600 americans. Just some numbers for thought. Interesting. I still don't think I need to invest in modern clads. I have been wrong in the past.

So with the minting continuing for the nickels and dimes do you think that the value of the coins will go down? I just read all of the hype about the 2009 nickels and dimes on this forum and now I am being told that they are practically worthless and a waste of time? I am now confused and possibly out of money!

It's all relative, no of course they're not worthless but I would guess they will continue to go down for awhile until they hit average numbers for Jefferson rolls of similar mintages at some point. It always seems to me the value of modern circulation strike coins is more tied to distribution than anything and people not wanting to wait for it. It's kinda like the life of a movie you can pay the high price to see it in a theater, wait and pay a few bucks to rent it on video, or see it for free when they show it on TV (circulation) hehe

I am still amazed by how much these rolls are getting. Even with a relatively low mintage, 39,000,000 is a big number, especially when you consider how many people actually are interested in collecting nickels. A few months ago these rolls were selling for $80+. I think the value will continue to decline as the rolls become more readily available.

I waited until November 2003 for a 2001-D Nickel and September 2008 for a 2003-D Dime. I think I will be able to hold out a while for the 2009 coins. After all, it is Summer 2009 and I am still holding out for the 2008 coins!
