A quick find rate update for those passionate Jefferson roll searchers out there ......

I just completed 1800 rolls (7200 coins) ..... recall that I save and 'count as a find' all coins prior to 1960 ...

Overall Rates

Overall Find Rate is 1.256%
Overall Rolls per 1 Find is 1.99

Rolls per 1930's is 64.3
Rolls per 1940's (exclude War Silver) is 5.2
Rolls per War Silver is 128.6
Rolls per 1950's is 3.6
Rolls per 'V' Nickel is 1800 (only 1 find)
Rolls per Buffalo is 257

Circulation Loss Percentages

Overall Loss (1938-1959) is 81.5%
1930's Loss is 87.3%
Pre-War 40's Loss is 81.1%
Silver War Loss is 98.8%
Post War 40's Loss is 78.4%
Early 50's Loss is 72.6%
Late 50's Loss is 69.1%

Status of my quest to complete the circulation strike series from rolls ....

I have seven (7) holes to fill .... '38, '38-D, '38-S, '42-S, '43-D, '44-D and '50-D

Also ..... no 2009 yet in Maryland.

Hope this data helps someone out there

Best

David

I LIKE IT!

Somebody else that has been infected with my madness!

I like your statistics; much more in depth than mine, and I will enjoy seeing future updates.

A few observations:

Surprised you haven't found a 1938 yet. They are tough, but not so tough as to go 1800 rolls without one. I think you will see a couple of them in the near future.

"D" MINT WARNICKELS FOR SOME REASON ARE VERY DIFFICULT! Through 10,300 rolls I have only found one 1943D, three 1944D, and three 1945D.

You have the 1951S; that one took me close to 5000 rolls to find the first!

You are getting a "keeper" one in every 80 coins or so. Mine is one in 100, but you keep the 1959's and 1960's also, so those numbers pretty much match up.

My 1950D came after 8100 rolls, so don't hold your breath on that one. BUT, a number of Forum members have reported finding one, so hopefully your wait will not be long.

Again, GREAT! Keep it up!!

D mint War Nickels ARE tough!! But the funny thing is that they're not priced much higher than the others in uncirculated grades. I recently decided to put together a set of War Nickels in BU, and decided to get the D's first. I was pleasantly surprised at the prices. I got all three D mints and a 1942-S for $35. I think that the D mints, particularly the 1943-D, may be sleepers.

im missing the same War Nickels as you as well as 50d, 38d, 38s, and 39s. I agree with CND that the 38 should show up soon I usually find one every 5 boxes or so. Have you found any proofs yet? What date was the liberty head?

A few comments on the questions ...

CND ...... I am keeping only through 1959 (not 1960) ... so my data set goes 1 year beyond yours.

If I 'throw out' the '59 P&D ..... than my overall find rate is 1.129%. Your 10,000 roll overall find rate was 1.085% .... so I say we are pretty much tracking.

Indeed ... what's up with finding the 1938? CND at 10,000 rolls was finding one every 12,500 coins searched ...... so I should have almost 6 by now! Just my luck I suppose.

Only have one Proof-Only, a 2001-S that appeared a month or so ago.

The Liberty was a 1910 ...... and in very poor shape. It was hard to tell at first if it was even a US coin ...... thought maybe it was a pitted, rusted steel blank. But ....... it's mine.

Keep searching yotie .... it's not a race but the journey

Best

David
