I recently decided to put together a set of nice high grade uncirculated War Nickels. I think they're very interesting coins, and quite stunning in high grades, if not worth a whole lot of money. I've been thinking about sending them off to ANACS as I find pieces that I like. Before I do though, I'd like to get the opinions of the forum....is it worthwhile for me to do that, or should I just get a Capital Plastics holder and be done with it?

All depends on how complete of a set you are talking about. Spending 20 bucks to grade a 20 dollar coin is a hard pill to justify.

I don't see the point of grading inexpensive coins for your own collection unless you're a registry set person. Take the money you'd spend to grade them and buy more coins

Unless you are sure that the War Nickels will grade in excess of MS66, then it is not financially advantageous to pay slabbing fees.

I have a different opinion on this .....

I say do whatever makes you happy and increases your enjoyment of the hobby.

Consider the cost ..... but the bottom line IMHO is that all of us collect for the joy of finding/owning treasures .....

Sooooo ... if it makes you happy to have your treasures slabbed then I so go for it ..... the cost versus market value of the coins is not the issue .... your personal need for what makes you happy is the question.

Only you can make that decision.

Best

David

Thanks for the input everyone! I think I'm going to go with the Capital Plastics holder for right now. They'll look good all together like that I think. I may slab the 1942 P Proof when I acquire one, and the 1943/2 P ( if I ever find one!)
