Greetings to all,

Glad to have found such a great site. I collected coins many years ago a have since just rediscovered the fun and excitement of the hobby.

This is my first post, so forgive me if it does not work properly.

"Rex" is obviously a Canadian 5 cent piece however can't identify the other coin. Both are about 5/8's" diameter.

Thanks for your help, and I will follow with many more as I have time.

I too collected as a kid and have rediscovered the fun. Grandma's Closet is a great topic. I bet many collectors have either inherited from Grandma's closet, or have acquired contents from estate sales. What a find!

Thanks Snowman, however I do not understand your notation.
KM #191 0.0137 ASW

How they got there? Grandma was my Mother in law. Her husband was in WWII, on the US California at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked, spent the next few years all over the world.

KM #191 refers to a reference number in a book authored by two men, Krause and Mishler, titled Standard Catalog of World Coins. The catalog, consisting of multiple volumes, is broken down into centuries going back to the 1600s. The 0.0137 ASW refers to the coin containing 0.0137 troy ounces actual silver weight.

Boy are you in luck! The Canadian 5 cent 1913, (KM#22 (And you'll get used to the references eventually)) is ALSO SILVER and weighs in at 0.034 oz.
