I bought four rolls of dimes at the bank and found a 1962 dime! My very first silver dime has been found! Looking for silver coins is how I got into cherrypicking. My dad got my into looking for silver and while doing research on the best places to find them the whole world of cherrypicking came before my eyes. But anyways...I found my first silver dime!! From what I've been reading, people are saying it's next to impossible to find them anymore. But I found one! Apparently I get excited easily.

Hahahhaha congrats.
Yes they seem to be elusive, More like fishing...it just FEELS like there are no silver dimes out there. Then somedays the fishing is good and they pop up in good numbers.

You have now stumbled upon an addiction worse than crack cocaine. You will never again be able walk into a bank and not ask for rolls of dimes ,nickels or even halves at times. Driving in the city will become a hazard to you and other drivers as you uncontrollably swerve over to enter into a bank parking lot. You may even find yourself driving to nearby small town banks "just to try your luck". You will even go so far as to look up branch locations that have Saturday hours on the internet and then map out an entire Saturday morning outing hitting them up in hopes of scoring big,and sometimes you will hit the mother load as I have done in the past https://goccf.com/t/45382. Now is the time to put aside some cash just for roll hunting, add to it each week and before long you will have built up a roll hunting war chest that will keep staring through a magnifying glass all weekend long on those cold dreary winter days that will soon fall upon us.

Congrats on a good find! You'll be hooked now. My girlfriend and I got a 1960-D dime today in change at Petco buying stuff for our tarantula. It was pretty cool, especially since my girl recently decided to put together a set of Roosies.

I love that feeling when I find them! I showed everyone at work. Most of them didn't care though. I'll offer to go through their change if they don't care!!

The very afternoon I posted this my computer crashed! You know how crazy that made me! Arrgghhh! I am addicted and I am already slowly building up my coin money for rolls. I purposefully park farther away in parking lots to give me more ground to cover hoping to find some change. Getting gas I take a peak under the soda machines. Used to never use cash now I find myself using cash so I can get change back. This Friday my husband was half snoozing on the living room floor and I noticed that a penny and a dime fell out of his pocket. So being the sweet loving mother that I am I hurried and snatched them up before my four year old could get them before me and as was walking to the kitchen I noticed the dime felt different-another silver dime! This one looks almost uncurculated and you know I ran in there and woke my husband up my digging in his pocket for the rest of the change. He just doesn't get it and went back to sleep while me and my son did the sliver dime dance.

Silver dimes and quarters are super-rare in circulation. I don't search these denoms, but as a cashier, I have opened hundreds upon hundreds of rolls, and in the past 5 years, have found 2 quarters and maybe 3 dimes.

Silver dimes are that rare? The first time I tried them I got ten rolls and found a 1956 dime! I was really happy as well

I used to be a cashier and when I busted open rolls I always found goodies in there and I would set them aside and buy them. It really is amazing what you can find!

i search dimes on a regular basis, id say in the long run you adverage around 1 per 2 boxes, although only 1 out of every 3 or 4 boxes will have them in them. I think its still possible to complete business strike dimes from circulation (without the 1996w of course). Quarters on the otherhand are absolutely abismal. In two years working as a bank teller I've only ever found 2 in rolls, although I've plucked 20 or so from coin machines in the same time period.
Happy Hunting, -XoG

About 15 years ago I worked as a Mgr. in a grocery store and we used alot of change. I made it a point to put it in trays and in the safe when Brinks left. It was very common to find 3 or 4 silver dimes, and 1 or sometimes 2 silver quarters in a box. (I loved the fact that Brinks switched to Shrink wrapped rolls) About 7 years ago at a different job that involved me handling the change A box of dimes would yield 1 or 2 in a good box, maybe 1 silver quarter in every 2 or 3 boxes. The last 2 boxes of dimes I got had no silver. I don't bother searching boxes of dimes or quarters for silver. I buy rolls searching for album needs and any silver is an unexpected surprise! I search half dollars for the silver. One 40% silver half has more silver than TWO 90% silver dimes and are alot easier to pull from circulation!

I too search dime boxes on a regular basis. In the last year I have pulled 179 of them CRH, along with 9 Canadian silvers. I am also averaging 1-2 per box. My record is 5. Gotta love this sight when you crack open a box.
