I'm hoping somebody can help me read this coin. I have been trying to find the locations of the date and denomination. I'm Guessing that the language is Eastern Arabic.

All I know of the coin so far is, It comes from the Indian Princely State of Hyderabad I also think it has a value of 4 Annas.

I think that's a silver rupee, most likely from the AH era. Not sure of the denomination.

That is in fact a silver Rupee minted between 1911 and 1924 in Hyderabad. It should weigh about .294 ounces, and it is 81.8% silver. As for the date, I am not quite certain. The language on this coin does in fact look more like eastern Arabic than Persian.

Nice coin. I have no idea what the denom. is. I can't read arabic yet, something I hope to learn in the next few years. Arabic text as quite an elegant look, looks difficult to write as well.

I have more information. The coin is 20mm and has a weight of 2.8g. I have ID this coin as a 4 Anna Cat. # KM Y65 which make it made of Nickel. I was stumped on it being a Rupee also for a while, but it doesn't have the feel of silver.

However, I'm still stuck on the date. There are only 2 choices. An AH1366//37 or AH1368//39, there is also a AH1368//37 listed with no pricing, so I take it that one is rare.

AS a side note, I know the AH stands for Arabic dating, but I have no idea what the "//37" stands for.

I believe yours is year 1366. The date is immediately below the building on the obverse, with the symbols that look like flags. Check out this numeral converter. I think I see the numerals for "37" on the reverse at the 6:30 position near the inner circle. Sorry that I cannot tell you what "37" stands for.

hope this helps,

Could the //37 refer to the year of the Nizamate? in this case of Mir Mahbub Ali Khan II.

Ah, now I see. I didn't realize that there were some issues of this type from the 1940s. Your coin is in fact a 4 Annas, which is made of nickel, and it is Y#65. It was only minted for 2 years AH1366 /37 (1947) and AH1368 /39 (1950).

So your coin is from 1947, and it is worth US$1.50 in Unc.

A very nice coin!
