Wondered if this new US Collector's Teddy Bear w/State quarter coin(encased in bear's foot) is legite and if coins are authenic/any value? Offer was to rec'v first 10 state coins for $19.95 & $12.75 s/h. Bear has collector's tag w/state info on one side and coin info on the other. With reserved order for rest of future state coins *same price if reserved during AD time, you get FREE George Washington $1 coin with future orders as well. Thanks a lot Moved to Main Coin Forum -GO

Hi Valdegree, Welcome to the forum. My opinion which will likely be echoed by many, is that those are overpriced. I would stay away from any Home Shopping Club type sales pitch. I would also stay away from the Littleton companies selling colorized or plated coins. They are authentic coins, but value or future appreciation is very unlikely. If you are looking to start a collection to get your feet wet, I think you would have more fun buying a 3 to 4 dollar State Quarter folder and start searching through rolls from banks and spare change to fill it. By the end you will have all the State Quarters and they will each be worth what you paid for them ($.25). They will also be worth the same as the quarter that is encased in a stuffed bears foot. Those are my thoughts. Ken

The coins themselves might be worth a Very small premium 10-20 years from now since they are more then likely in UNC condition but as of right now...they are worth .25 cents
Coins are coins....the only thing that will add value or condition, rarity, tone, etc. Any time there is gold plating, colorization, or stickered it automatically makes the numismatic value void.

I avoid buying anything from HSN, One night as a little experiment, I took the auctions listed directly on HSN, And typed them into ebay. My jaw droped as I saw the price difference between HSN's "Once in a lifetime" deals and ebay's prices, they were as much as 50$ to 100$, Even more. Everything on their seems to be overpriced.

If you build up some posts (50) you will probably be able to obtain a lot of what you are looking for on this forum in the buy and sell section. Most people here are willing to give you advice and help you out with questions. Definitely stay away from anything 1) on TV 2) colorized or with stickers 3) associated with famous people. (I saw a shameless product trying to get people to buy colorized half dollars right after Ted Kennedy died last week).

Do yourself and your wallet a big favor - do not buy any coins from TV shows or telemarketers. You will find the same or better coins advertised in Coin World, on ebay, at local shops, or from well-known online dealers for MUCH less money. Local and big shows are also great places to buy coins. And forget all the colorized coins and coins with something else products. They are worthless to a coin collector.
