Right now on ebay a "Replica" casting of a Revolutionary 8R has bids over $300 yet the coin is listed as a "cast" not struck piece. That clearly identifies the coin as a forgery while staying within ebay rules.

I bought one of these for $6 not long ago from a reputable west coast dealer in Mexican coins.

Do you think that the high bidders (at least 4 of them) did not read the description?

This coin is made out of cast silver; IT IS NOT STRUCK. Please bid accordingly

A word replica, counterfiet or Fake would have been enough to avoid confusion.

I think The leading bidder is new and maybe (non english speaking) in ebay with 9 feedbacks

I agree with MGT, seller should have listed it as counterfeit, or replica.

manilagalleontrade I agree that the words Fake or Counterfeit would have been clearer - but in the US - ebay often cancels the auction if you use those words. It happens often enough so that most US based sellers have learned not to use those words. They use other accurate descriptions - "Private Mint" - "contemporary non-regal issue" or "possibly counterfeit, you decide".

For sales from other countries the policy is different.

What I can not imagine is someone being willing to pay over $300 and not knowing that a CAST coin would not be real. The person needs to be educated and this way is expensive.

echizento ebay policy needs to be corrected so that properly attributed counterfeits can be posted.

ebay needs better policing, because the forgeries will only get worse.
But of course, one wonders why buyers don't ask the "hard questions," like would Mexico ever issue cast coins?

There may be a couple more, but I can only think of THREE cast coins made in Mexico that are real.

They are all "emergency issues" which could cause some confusion with this coin. Those three are (1) The Chihuahua Royalist issues of 1812 ,(2) the SUD silver casts of 1813 (which many people believe are all spurious anyway) and (3) the Sinaloa issues of 1915. All three types are FAR MORE COMMONLY known as counterfeits and originals of cast coins need to be authenticated by specialists.

Final comment: The coin sold for $ 345.
