First of all, I am pretty new at being serious about collecting. I saw a reference in another post about Teletrade. I went to their site and looked around for a while. I also looked at some of their auctions. I noticed that they had alot of great coins and alot of cleaned coins. Maybe I am wrong, but it seemed to me that the prices they give for previous auction sales were pretty high as compared to Red Book prices. Am I missing something?

LOL NO TT is notorious for having "suspicously" high past auction prices. Or there accurate & TT caters to newbies who do not know better & bid up the items.

I would use heritage for auction results

I've seen their ads in some magazines, and I had noticed the large quantity of cleaned coins. It seemed strange to me that they would buy so much cleaned stuff and market it in a magazine where it costs money to put the ad. I'd want to advertise my higher end stuff there.

I've purchased some pretty nice coins in Teletrade auctions in the past (1852-C and 1857-D half eagles, 1878 proof Twenty Cent Piece, etc.) but it's been years since I've won any of their auctions. Their prices have just gone too high. Both times I've placed unwanted coins in Teletrade auctions I've been disappointed with the prices realized.

To add insult to injury, they charge sales tax for bidders in California. So, it seems like it's become a site where you can buy high and sell low. It doesn't work for me any more.

The seller can bid on his coins until 1 hour before auctions ends.

I've bought coins from them in the past at reasonable prices, but they are few & far between. For whatever reason their prices seem to run a little high. I suspect part of that is because they add the buyers premium in when they post the realized price.

I think they are owned by Bowers and Merena (high end auction site)
and they dump unwanted coins at TT...they used to have great deals
(I've picked up a few over the years) but have become pricey now...
Most auction site prices have been rising...especially Dave Lawrence and Goldbergs.
I keep going back to ebay...for all its downfalls, your can still get good deals!
