this thing has been for sale for almost a year and if they would drop the price about half a million they may sell it to someone http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...46170049&ru=http://shop.ebay.com:80/%3F_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=330346170049&_fvi=1&_rdc=1

I would buy it if I had the money, that is a very cool piece of history!

No one's ever going to buy it. Assumably, the person selling it has a fair amount of capital behind them; why don't they just donate it to the Smithsonian or somewhere and cop a really nice tax write-off?

I've seen this on ebay before...it's still cool see a bill that old with a solitary 1. That one should be visible enough to sell on Heritage--maybe they told the seller it won't clear $1M?

How much would the note actually be worth? Anyone know?

If this was real, why wouldn't you go to a place where you knew serious people with serious money would buy it? A Stacks or Heritage Auction would seem like the most common sense place.

For that price, they are not seriously trying to sell it. I believe that they are using that note for the purpose of driving traffic to their other auctions. Did you see the counter? It was at 17,235

The condition is saddening

It is but at least it survived 40 some years in circulation. It still has all the corners as well which is rare for a two that old.

I was born 100 years after that bill, and I don't have any corners left!

He says the note sold at auction in 2001 for $138,000. Seems like jumping to a million is high.

The low grade of that note is going to severely limit its value now and in the future.

I don't think it will severely limit its value. Of course it would be worth more if it was in better condition, however it is still the first $2 bill period. If you read the entire novel in the auction you would know that only the first one and two dollar bills printed are known. The one is in the Chase Manhattan Bank of America and is not likely to leave as long as the bank exists. So this two is the only traceable first bill of its denomination available. So the condition my decrease the value but the history points level the playing field for the most part imho.
