Was wondering what you all thought of this. Seems to be a rpm but wanted to make sure it's not a worn out punch. Thanks.

I agree. It is interesting but it is tough to tell with a picture of a proof coin. Try a few more shots.

Thanks,
Bill

From what I see, this is the type 2 mint mark used in 79. Skinny leg on first 9 is normal for that year. New dies = straighter edges on the mint mark and therefore easier to stick in the die. This appears to be ejection doubling to me.

Or die movement. The tell tale lines from the die creating Machine Doubling. It you look closer the tops of the 7 & 9 probably have it also.

I can not see anything on the 7 or 9, but I do see what you are talking about on the mintmark. So what you are saying is if this was an rpm then those lines would not be there. Thanks for that info.

Here is a good example of the lines that form from the die moving. That is the shape of the metal making those pushed little lines.

I got it. The thing that made me think it was is that it was only visible on the mintmark and not anywhere else on the coin as I have seen on many other coins. Just use to seeing it on more than one spot of the coin.
