Not a real "bet" ofcourse, but I'm thinking by Wednesday it'll be $700. That depends upon Iran/China/Russian, the US dollar falling a bit more and unfortunately oil going up again. Anyone game for picking a date to hit $700 - just for fun? (NY Gold Spot) Can't get $ involved because we all know where our loose change is going - right?

Well, it went up $7.80 today to $682.40, only $17.60 to go to get there. 2-3 more days like today & we be there. I say by the end of next week, it'll blow by 700--

The price of gold over the past 12-18 months has been unbelievable to say the least. This reminds me quite a bit of the tech sector of the stock market during the mid 90's. I'm looking to pick up a couple gold eagles for my collection, but at these levels I'm holding off. When the correction comes (and it will), then I'll jump back in.

Dogman I would wait until June and buy two of the FIRST ever pure gold Indian/Buffalo one ounce gold pieces that will be released then. Next year they will be doing the same coin in tenth, quarter and half ounce as well but do believe these 2006 ounce coins will be a good buy due to the fact they are the first 24K gold from the U.S. and they will only be around for 6 months before the date must change. I would give it a little thought!

The Gold Buffalos will be a nice "change" from the Silver. Is 24K .999 pure? Thanks for the info crystalstalk64!!
The increase in Gold and ofcourse, also Silver is truly a double-edged sword isn't it? I've heard rumors of $1000/oz by years end - who knows! Right now I feel like Crude is becoming more gold-like, especially when gasoline is at $3.25/gallon here in Arizona! (we're an import/pipeline State). Now crude is not a coin discussion - sorry I got on my high horse a little. Oops! I still love the shiny things better - greater rewards!
I too remember the tech sector of the Stock Market in the '90's. My "home" State is Colorado and it is still reeling from the recovery of the '90's. Yes, the correction in prices will come - it always does!
Does anyone know the logic behind going off of the Gold Standard and then to Silver and now the dollar is backed by "Government Guarantee"? I can't remember. Am I correct?

The Canadian mint has a 0.9999 pure goldcoin Look at Bretton Woods The French and other nations were exchanging their paper dollars for real gold at the fixed rate of like 30 dollars per ounce Once about half of the american gold was gone they stopped convertibility because they had printed a lot more green paper then there was gold

dsking, Ageka has answered your question. The new buffalo gold will be .9999 pure which means it will be very very soft. Each coin will be encapsulated by the mint prior to sale as the slightest touch can and will scratch pure gold. I think the first year of any new coins release is a safe buy but also think this buffalo gold will be very short lived as the Mint is searching for a "politically correct" design to sell world wide. Will it be the Indian/Buffalo or something different? I would say we will know by Jan. of 2007 or 2008 what the permanent design will be. The buffalo/Indian will be well received here in the states but I don't know about the rest of the world and thats what the Mint is after! World sales to compete with the other pure gold coins currently being produced.

I'm glad to hear that the US Mint is coming up with a .9999 Gold Coin. I buy the American Eagles in Gold because they are American, but I also buy the Canadian Maples because of their purity. I'll definitely keep an eye out for the Buffalo/Indians! They will be a good long term investment as well as a smart looking coin (we hope). Thanks again!

First, I think it gold will hit 700 by May 10 if not before. Second, I too am looking forward to the Buffalos, but I hope they issue them before gold gets to be too much higher because (1) they'll be too expensive, and (2) will make less and less sense as an investment because gold is going to settle and I'm afraid we're looking at a smaller and smaller investment window. AND I REALLY WANT ONE OF THOSE COINS!!!

I'm not sure what they are after either, but it's for sure that you guys had better be prepared to stand in line when the sales window opens. Dang, this is when a guy needs high speed internet, isn't it?

If the US mint wants to grab part of the european coin market they will have to compete with the nugget ( kangeroo )and those fabulous Lunar series coins and of course the pandas and unicorns etc Also Monnaie de Paris is cranking out high quality proofs ever faster And the best selling coin in Japan is the Philharmoniker (Austrian) The canadian pure gold coins sell quiete below issue price on the german ebay so it is not evident that a (quick ) gain will be realised It took the early pandas like 24 years to double in price premium Even the first three years of the krugerrand are very sought after

As I write (5/9/06 @ 2:40 p.m. EDT) gold is $699.70. Us Wednesday voters might not have to wait. The markets are open another 45 minutes or so.
