Our coin club held the annual "white elephant" auction to raise money for the silver raffle prizes we need for our October coin show. We ask members to donate items of a numismatic nature such as coins, currency, reference books, and albums for the auction. This was about the nicest coin offering of the evening. I plunked down $36 for this dime, knowing it was to benefit the club. What do you all think about it? I see that the surfaces are finely granular. Does this look like environmental damage, such as you see on metal detector finds? Or, it is possibly the result of rusted dies? Also, can you tell whether this is the "type 1" or "type 2" reverse?

I would appreciate your comments and grade opinions. Thanks!

Not too bad for a $36 club donation!

I'd say VF+ details, cleaned and possible environmental damage. My guess is not rusty dies but the coin has had a rough life. The "CC" alone makes it nice though!

Nice little CC, I agree details look to be VF-35 with environmental damage. Coin does looks like it may be a detector find. Nice buy for $36.
