If you're considering an economical solution for coin photography, look at what a Canon SD790IS can do in macro mode (hand-held). Not too shabby for a $150 camera. As a point of reference, the size of the date is similar to an IHC.  |

Here's a pic I took with my Kodak EasyShare DX4900 (Which I got on Craigs List for 20.00 and a cheapy 2.00 x10 jewlers loupe attached to the lens (hand held). How does this look?  |

That's a decent shot through a jeweler's loupe! Here's another coin I shot today that shows how the SD790IS captures detail. Hand-held again, with a single light source.   |

I paid $25.00 (including shipping) for my JVC GC-QX3HD about 7 years ago and it can do very well in macro mode without a tripod also  |
