DVCollector suggested I get the Canon SD780IS, and I bought it about an hour ago. However, after inserting the memory card, the camera says "No memory card," and then after I took it out and put it in again, it says "Memory card error" and after I click the right triangle to view pictures, it says "Card locked!" even though I unlocked the memory card. Any ideas or opinions on this? Thanks. Edited by wheatguy 01/02/2010 7:15 pm

I know there are different classes of cards, is it a class 4?

Yes I think so, it's a 4GB SDHC.

may be a little different case but I have a video camera and bought a disk for it, it fit fine and it kept saying no card when I put the card in it. I think I had the wrong class card, which is why I asked. good luck.

I have a Canon SD780IS and the memory card had to be formatted. Were you able to format following the instructions in the camera's manual?

I had to format mine also before I could use it

Some cameras only use the SD format, rather than SDHC. We have a couple of devices like that here. Also make sure the 4GB is compatible, as some can only handle up to 1 or 2GB (check the camera documentation).

I have a 8GB Kingston SDHC in mine right now, so it should be fine.

That's odd, even with the memory card in or out the Format button is not available to me, I can see it but I can't click on it.

Page 146 of the manual has the location of what to do if you get either of the two messages you received. Were you able to follow either of those procedures? If not, it may be a faulty memory card.

Thanks for the info, I just looked at Pg. 146. Unfortunately, my camera says "Memory Card Error," and the manual says I'll have to ask the Canon Support Desk or something like that. I'll go back to the place and see what they can do.

My SD790IS is probably different, but I got the same error--and formatting the card fixed it. Good luck solving the problem, because I think you'll enjoy this camera.

Thanks DV, it really does seem like a great camera. I'm sure I'll enjoy it when I clean this mess up.

What is the brand of the card you are using? Sometimes cheaper brands can cause problems with newer cameras. I've worked with the 780 many time and have never had a problem in the past......so far

It's a Dane-Elec 4GB SDHC card.
