In celebration of passing 500 posts, it's about time for a contest. The theme will be " The Ugliest Cent Wins"! So search your hoard and find the most eligible candidate and post a pic. A few rules:The cent should be 1958 or prior (Zincolns get ugly too easily- same goes for steelies) No helping your contestant--it should not show fresh marks of "prettying up" using tools, sandpaper, sidewalk, or acids Damage is OK, as long as it's under a patina of brown (or any color) of bronze. Lincoln wheat cents, Indian Head cents, Flying Eagles, large US cents, Canada cents (pre '65), and (pre-decimal) Australian pennies qualify. The winner will get a not-ugly 1906 IHC! I'll be the judge of whose cent/penny is ugliest. Contest length: TBA. I will extend the contest to give anyone interested a chance to photograph their coin. May the ugliest coin win! The Prize: And, to get things started, I submit an ugly cent to surpass. Edited by DVCollector 09/20/2009 12:38 pm

Quote: But this one is the ugliest cent that I have seen! Course, the contest states Lincoln cents from '58 and earlier. So dig out those ugly ones. This contest will run until there's a large enough group to judge. Update: Flying Eagle cents also qualify.

Quote: Course, the contest states Lincoln cents from '58 and earlier. So dig out those ugly ones. The original post said, "The cent should be 1958 or prior..." It did not say "must be!" I stand by my ugly cent. And I offer my proof here: ask yourself, what would you rather have, my cent or one of the other ugly cents. As far as I am concerned, case closed. I won!! Hooray for me! There is only one flaw... I only hope that no one enters one of the other new cents. That will really make this competition tough!

In case any doubt remains-- only Lincoln wheat cents (ie 1958 and earlier) and the others described above qualify for the contest.
