Is this a regular circulating coin? Has anyone received one in your change?

Yes, it's a regular circulating coin if it's struck in the regular metal that loonies are struck in (there was a proof version not intended for circulation). I have never received one in change, but others here have. Seldom encountered in circulation because people are hoarding them.

I thought this was only issued in the Province of Quebec, that is why they seem to be a bit rare.

The circulation rolls were given to Metro stores in Quebec to hand out as change. I haven't had any in change yet but I did get a few off ebay from people who bought rolls from the mint.

I have only seen 2 or 3 since they came out, pretty hard to come across unless you live in Quebec, same with the Fleur-de-lis toonie

I've been collecting coins now for about 3 months.
I have one of the Montreal canadian coins. I knew cleaning coins is a no no but figured a new coin in varasol might just remove the dirt.. an experiment. Turned spotty green.
So my search continues for another montreal canadians dollar.
I live in Quebec so I figure I'll find another one soon. I've had them in my possession before taking up coin collecting.

Well I work in a bank in New Brunswick, and I cant say I have seen many in circulation change, however I have seen some. I`m assuming people grab it

And for those of you that want a peek at the proof version, here is a pic

I worked in a bank for years until I changed careers. The funny thing was I didn't find much of anything to speak of in coin. I remember coming across a number of 1954 series bills ... mostly fives. I still have those. The thing I kick myself over (although it's not a huge deal) is that there were four bundles ($400) of unc ones from the Bank of Canada sitting in the vault (they couldn't be circulated because we had just switched to the loonie) and I didn't snatch them up ... doh!
