best I can do with my crappy axial lighting setup. Any suggestions on what I can upgrade to would be appreciated. Need to go to triple led/bulb setup but don't know where to begin.

Nice '70 S. To be honest, axial lighting works well for me. Maintain the axial principle, but consider using some additional (just to the side) diffused light sources. As always, experiment, experiment...
