Quote:My girlfriend's 10 year old son heard me talking about buying something on ebay. He looked at me in horror and said "Don't buy anything on ebay! It's a rip-off!" Out of the mouth of babes.... Bruce I'll agree with that kid. My Son sells on ebay all the time too. He sells basically JUNK. He has fantastic feedbacks due to he has all his friends send that in for him. He rigs that and so do many others.

I have to say, this is another reason that I avoid e-bay. I don't have these experiences with my local dealers, coin club auctions, or the on line dealers I have used (after researching them). I just don't think that the chance of getting a killer deal on e-bay is worth the downside. Life is too short, and I enjoy this hobby too much, to stress on rip-off artists. I realize that majority of sellers on e-bay are stand-up men and women, but the bad seeds just ruin it for me.

I had the same experience with an Ebayer who listed a nice continental note and when I luckily placed the only bid($50) he contacted me after I paid thru PAYPAL and offered me a rag of a note(said he listed the wrong note!)...He refunded my money and even after repeated emails to ebay and PAYPAL,, they said since I got the refund, they would do nothing about it. Consider yourself lucky you got the refund and realize that ebay has all kinds of sellers and its not against the rules to be a complete *** Edited by Staff | The bad word filter is in place for a reason. Bypassing the filter and making the intended word obvious anyway is completely unacceptable. *** as long as you refund the sellers money...no proof and no enforcement! I have made a point of not giving feedback until after I am in receipt of an item and completely satisfied with the transaction... PS He also sent me emails calling me names for trying to complain about him! PPS I've had a couple of auctions on CCF go bad due to members bidding and then not claiming the item when they won...so its not just ebay.

I don't think the seller is obligated to send you the original coin since he refunded your money, but IMHO there is NO excuse for cussing you out just because you asked for the original coin. A simple explanation as to why he couldn't supply that coin was all that was required. I think it is cowardly to use email to threaten and cuss someone, if you have something to say to me, say it to my face. Peace.

I see some very rational statements from most, I have just about forgotten about this, one thing I will say is I find it interesting that if a refund is given, all is forgiven?
I guess sometimes the reality of giving your word and doing the right thing is bitter, I still have no clue, I even asked the staff, no reply, as to how you place a name on the "Bad sellers list", I have received, as you all can see, many different extremes for opinions, I just might give a reference to the transaction,The hope would be no-one else gets burned over spilt coffee! PS, Some people are very powerful, behind a keyboard!

Quote: I find it interesting that if a refund is given, all is forgiven? No, not really. From a physical standpoint, having been given a refund there's nothing you can do any further at ebay, unless the tone of your Neutral/Negative review addressed *only* the seller's attitude in email (hint). I would certainly put that seller on my "Never buy again" list for his actions. Having taken a couple days away from this thread to reconsider my position, I find myself less opposed to giving this guy some publicity than I was before. After all, there are some pretty notorious Ebayers we discuss here frequently, whose financial practices cannot be faulted.

No, I do not feel that all is forgiven. On ebays side all is forgiven because a refund was issued. However I would not EVER buy anything else from him and would probably leave a negative feedback. In my mind switching out the auctioned item for a piece of junk has never been fine.

Believe me I have left negative feedback 3x's He was the most Direct, to the point, you could be. Afterwards, he left another charming, use of the Queen's English, for a remark.
Will anyone direct me to the "Bad Sellers List" for the forum....

Some words are unacceptable only in the minds of wannabe gestapo. I run it through Word Whomp on Pogo, if it is acceptable there I consider the filter to be the work of an overbearing prude. {{{Hint}}}

This is why I quit buying anything from ebay. I've gotten ripped off too many times to want to go back there and it wasn't just coins. I'm done with that place. I will stick to CC, my coin shop and coin shows from now on. As far as my books I just buy them at the book store, used book stores, garage sales and antique stores now. ebay used to be a great place to get things but it has turned into a mess. My opinion only of course.
