I buy many coins on this site, I bought a Mint set that did not have the Cent, a 1953-S set, so after I won the set I set out to obtain as nice a 1953-S Cent as I could, I found one for $4.85, paid and 8-days later "a coin arrived, only not the one in the picture of the auction I won" I wrote to the seller and explained the coins were different, He says He spilled coffee on the original 2x2 flip and sent another one to me.

I know He pulled the bait and switch routine and after complaining that I want the original coin, for my sweet mint set, he refunded my money and said"were through", I explained that is not what I thought and asked please send the original coin, seeing the one I received was banged up and dragged by a truck for a while. He wrote to me "that I sound like I am crazy and do I do drugs?, another e-mail contained a few cursings from him.
I complained, ebay took the report and a day later e-bay wrote to me that he was dealt with and because of the confidentiality of the problem, they could not explain what "punishment was dealt out".

Two days later I received another e-mail from the seller cursing at me again, he says he was warned and I should have a good day!

Now I ask you, what would you do, he had 99.8% positive feedback, I have made well over 250 transactions and I think 3-4 were a problem.
I am just very frustrated that some-one could do this and just be warned, than laugh in my face, I only hope someday "KARMA" plays a strong role in his life, tell me, what would you think should be done or what would you do, I mean it was a cheap lesson, but not the point, any opinions?

Some people are just small.

Threats or profanity are just sad from adults. Sorry you had to deal with it. Smile and move on. No need to stoop down and deal with that sort of behavior no matter how tempting.

You can forward the emails back to ebay as harassment and they will again get involved but it is just an endless loop unless something is of really serious nature such as violence or continued profane harassment.

One thing you could do is add his ebay username to the forum's 'bad seller's' list and explain the situation. He'll probably lose more than a few sales just from word of mouth, and it sounds like you'd also save some people from a bad experience.

That was about my success rate with ebay. Roughly 1% were deals with screwball sellers that somehow had very good feedback but gave me a raw deal.

Do you still need a 1953-S wheatie? I've got one that's probably MS63RD I'll give you. Just PM your mailing address if interested.

Sorry about the bad transaction. I'd forget about it for $5.

If the item you bought were $50 dollars, would ebay do the same thing, or is the extent of punishment connected with the price of the item?

Sorry to hear about that..being an active E-bay seller I really hate when others pull this kind of nonsense.. Beleive me I have been taken a few times, and once for 3 gold coins and over 1800.00 lost.....This seller was pulled from e-bay but I got nothing back form any source...The best thing is forget it.

If a person - collector buys from me I have an outright return policy. If there is any problem , other than grading differences, Full refund no questions asked..... But I have also had a person buy from me , keep the coin for 30 days , saying he had not received it, but unknowingly I found the coin being offered for sale on E-bay at 5 times the price he paid for it.. .It did not sell and within 2 days I got the email ...QUOTE " cOIN JUST ARRIVED AND I AM NOT HAPPY WITH IT, I WANT ME D...N MONEY BACK." Of course I laughed but went through the process with ebay ..I got the coin back and gave him the money.............Just another guy to add to the BLOCKED list......

Dont worry w...dad not all sellers are like that..

Please don't take this wrong, because I'm not taking issue with you, but if he refunded your money without question then you've no real standing to push the issue any further. Yes, we all know what he actually did, but having refunded the seller can easily cause anything further you might do to be removed from the record. And, frankly, I don't know if I could support you should you choose to further publicize the matter - aside his attitude, there are any number of "plausible" reasons why he didn't have the original coin to send.

Case in point - I provide large, excruciatingly sharp photos of my coins for sale, and yet I've been accused twice of sending a different coin than the on pictured by clueless buyers. I know you - you're not that type - but it could be in the seller's mind.

Dave, I do overall take most with a grain of salt, your reply is very interesting, I DID buy a coin that I have the original pictures from, and this rubbish sent to me is a totally different coin.

What I simply wanted was "THE COIN I WAS SHOWN" and paid for!I do not want to push the issue, I do want to Print it!

I am an old school, upfront person, I do not want to have a problem like this over a few dollars or for any amount of $$$, this is "the principle," people say one thing and do another, what would I possibly want from this kind soul, "the coin I was promised, the one he gave HIS word to send me.
If I should chose to publicise this it would be to prevent others from having to deal with the pond scu! in this world and know I did my best to stop this unethical, dis-respectful, immature behavior!
I think xshift has a great idea, whether some think different or not, I hope no one else has to endure the frustration and grief associated with people like this, now, how do you get to post a bad seller on this forum's list?

PS: I want to thank ALL for their concern and comments on this topic, be well, Mike
NOTE, I just checked my original post, it was proof read and things were deleted, I did not and do not feel anything written was improper, could some one please explain.

My girlfriend's 10 year old son heard me talking about buying something on ebay.

He looked at me in horror and said "Don't buy anything on ebay!! It's a rip-off!"

Out of the mouth of babes....

MD, I think all they did was take out the 'all caps' as they do with others sometimes, as it's read as 'yelling'. I could be wrong though, as I didn't completely finish reading your post the first time and had to come back to it later.

And SD has reminded me of a saying I grew up with: Grant That I May Not Criticize My Neighbor Until I Have Walked A Mile in His Moccasins.

It is totally possible, like SD says, that the seller does think you're nuts - not because you are, but he may not realize the coin sent is different. Ok so he spills coffee on the 2x2. He takes the coin out to put it in a new one, gets sidetracked (phone call, UPS man, what-have-you)... and if he's anything like me: desk full of stacks of coins, 2x2's, staplers, album pages.. when he got back to the task at hand, he may have simply grabbed the wrong coin without realizing it. This does not, by any means, excuse him from being downright rude. That part was completely uncalled for. But in regards to the coin, you both could be victims of an innocent mistake (and his disorganized desk). That's just one possible scenario. Another could be that after he properly re-2x2'd the coin, he accidentally sent your coin to buyer #2 and sent buyer #2's coin to you.

Whatever you decide to do, remember the ebay feedback system is there for just this purpose. Appropriate feedback left there about your experience would let a wider audience know how it went.

I understand it's frustrating - it's happened to me, too, as a buyer. At the very least, we're all here to listen

That's a crummy experience for sure, but I'll agree that sometimes it's best to take the refund and move on. Like another noted "some people are small", and the continued hassle just isn't worth it. I've bought a few items off ebay which were misrepresented, and when the seller clearly was in no mood to negotiate, I just scratched him off my list. Then again, most of my purchases on ebay have been OK.

Good sellers aside, if that's a common perception...then ebay has some room to improve. I could suggest a few things myself.

The reality is you weren't satisfied with the product so you got a full refund. It sounds like his response to the situation was less than professional, but IMHO you don't really have much room to complain.

I am not a child, I do know the difference between being right and wrong, I appreciate all the comments, I also know that if this coin was sent to me by mistake, there is no need for the profanity/unprofessional comments. I would think it a very far fetched possibility that 2 of the same year coins were sold that day, and if you were the recipient of the wrong coin, would you not speak up. O K , Enough energy expelled on a sellers actions, like most have stated, move on, so the moral of this adventure, lest not we judge the seller in question, till you are the scorned buyer! So how about them Yankees!

I've had the same thing happen to me recently. The auction I bid on was poorly listed, so I basically stole the coin for a minimum bid. The coin that arrived was a much poorer version of the one pictured. When the seller failed to respond to my emails, I left negative feedback and moved on. It wasn't worth fighting over the couple of dollars that I was out.

To me it is the risk that I take by using ebay. Consider yourself lucky that you got your money back.
