We have a couple of fishers at the office for shallow water dive work. They are a pain to balance properly but seem to work ok.
Had no trouble locating 88mm mortar rounds in 35m of water...... how they would work on small objects such as gold coins I don't know.

I have had a fisher 1280-X since the late 80's. I use it when I hunt inland lakes(fresh water), I use a PI when hunting salt water beaches.

I have made a lot of nice finds with the 1280. First time out with it, found a 1965 class ring, third time out it pretty much paid for itself with a very nice 1/3 caret diamond ring. Over the years it has worked very well. In calm lakes I like how it will float right beside me when I am digging. Also the 1280 has now ground balance .. it is preset from factory. I think it is a very good quality machine.
