Tonight I passed through 90,000 coins searched ..... and have found my first ever 1938 Jefferson .....

I expected a 1938-P ..... but this is a VF+ 1938-D ...... with a mintage of 5.4 million it shows up as #4 least likely on my list of coins to find.

Still need a 1938-P ..... who would have thought it would take over 90,000 coins to find one?

I'll post my 90,000 coin rate statistics later ..... but for now .... still looking for a 1938-P.

David

Congrats on that find, it is kinda weird but you'll find your 38 P eventually.
You guys make me crazy, I wish I could find the time to do roll searches but it isn't in the cards for me. I have too much sorting and organizing to do as it is.

I used to have a pin ball and amusement game business as a hobby. It generated fairly large amounts of quarters to look through, maybe 50,000 per year, but other than the odd silver quarter, I really didn't look carefully.

Now I'm getting the inclination to buy a booklet and start looking through my change for circulated State Quarters.

Congradulations nickelsearcher! I'm in a very similar boat, I've only found two 1938. One a 1938-P and the other is a XF+ 1938-S, number three on the lowest mintage list. Quite odd...

What! You can't find those in change? I see them all the time. Just kidding of course. A long, long time ago I used to buy bags of cents and nickels from the banks. Easily filled several Jefferson nickel Albums but that was a long time ago. Those albums were from 38 to 64 back then. Now way to many collectors so not so easy.

Sooooo ..... I now have 2-38D, 1-39D and 2-39S ..... but not a single 38P.

I know my day is coming ...... I hope?

Are you getting your rolls from a bank or some other source? I know some people just grab a few rolls when they're checking out at a supermarket.
