The marks on the E appear to be small die dents. Too uniform to be die chips. Something touched the dies that wasn't soft. The mark on the ear? The jury is still out on that one. I don't see a doubling in that area that looks like a lobe, but there is something there that I don't have a solution right now. Let's see what others say.
When we find die gouges on coins and we wonder how they could happen, just place a toothpick on the top of the coin and you can see how minor these can be except under strong magnification.
thanks as always coop, I know that the earlobe wasn't in the right spot to be the big one, but I definately see something there. hope someone chimes in for us on this one.
Here is a nice image of the biggie for that year. It is important to consider what else is doubled on a variety before assuming your coin matches a known variety. The die's devices must match to be from that die.
I understand that, and I figured out that I do not have that one you have posted here, but I know that something a little extra is there and it might need to be looked at. It by no means looks like a gas bubble, have any ideas on it? but as always coop, thanks!
