I don't get it. I must still give credit where it is due, the auction is very plainly labeled but just blows me away this coin has so much demand.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MEWAX:IT

I know we all have different opinions about replicas. I personally avoid them at all costs but I can still understand why people use them....but for this price!? Just seems rediculous. Just watch your butts for A/G 77 indians with these out there. Someone would fall for it with crap pictures and some synthetic wear on the reverse to remove the "copy" striking. They would walk right into it.

"Just found this coin in an old ____, I know nothing about coins so please look at the pictures and grade for yourself."

-or-

"Was given these coins as a gift but I know nothing about them and I don't collect. Please see pictures for condition. All sales final"

Not saying this about the above seller, but boy is it a slimey world in the coin market these days. It is bound to happen.

Two things at least give this away as a fake: 1) the feathers are in the wrong location and 2) the N in "One" is too strongly struck. If you are going to buy major key dates, it pays to do homework on them and learn the diagnostic features of a real one. Or buy a slabbed coin. But even slabs are being counterfeited too. Be careful out there and educate yourself!

The feather position is a huge giveaway--that obverse wasn't used until 1886.
Funny how they tried to approximate the correct date position, but were totally wrong on the feathers.
The seller doesn't state it's a copy in the description--perhaps a few bidders missed the huge "COPY" stamped on the coin?

Hey DVCollector,
The seller does mention it's a copy

"To comply with ebay listing requirements the coin has been incused with "copy" on reverse as shown."
