G'day, and see: http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/world/...found-in-uk/contrast this part of the report with some recent CCF threads regarding the rhe rights of the landowner, the finder, and the state: "... The hoard was officially declared treasure by a coroner, which means it will now be valued by a committee of experts and offered up for sale to a museum. Proceeds would be split 50-50 between Herbert and his farmer friend [owner of the land] ..." That seems like a very sensible solution. I wonder if the finder is entitled because he had permission to search, and I suspect that if the finder was a trespasser, he'd probably get zilch ... ? Peter in Oz

My "big" find was a vintage 1940 car wheel buried under my former car port. And ... from the signal, there's another one right next to where I dug the first one up! Will the treasure troves never cease?
Translation - if I don't get out of my own yard, I'm not going to be finding a Celtic hoard very soon ...

PLS, That sounds like the kind of luck I'd have too.
As for the main topic...It would make my day!

Not to depress the story because it truely is an amazing find, but england really is not a good place to find anything considered a treasure trove
Treasure Act page: @England Treasure Act Revised In the event a "Treasure Trove" is discovered (as defined under the Treasure Act, 1996), English law prevails and the find becomes the property of the Crown; however, the finder is entitled to receive a reward determined by the Treasure Validation Committee, which consists of independent experts.

What an amazing story! Although few would attest to buying a detector in hopes of finding such a hoard, we all probably did...lol
