Hi Metalman.

I don't have a book at the moment, but I have this exact coin in my collection and I have that listed as an M mint, so I think you are right there. As for grading, I'm not really much into grading yet, but I would have thought XF. Just as a comparison from when I priced my coins recently, Krause list this coin as US$40 in XF and Macdonalds list it as AUD$95 (about US$71).

Regards

Steve

Without haveing it in the hands I would grade it at EF. It may loose or gain half a grade depending on the real wear near the crown.

I hate to be so conservative and all, but I wouldn't grade it more than a VF, an aVF/VF would probably be more appropriate.

It lacks the full set of pearls (which in my opinion is the bare minimum for an EF GeoV coin [unless weakly struck]), the center diamond is although mostly clear, partially fused with the lower band (maybe just the photo). The reverse is slightly better though. So aVF/VF.

after reading walters decision I want to change my opinion , but I will stick to my original answer and grade it as a GOOD VF . The reason I do not give it EF is that I think EF needs to have a full band and complete diamond with 8 pearls clearly visible

now when you say bands are you talking about on the bottom part of the crown because if you are going by the picture it looks like the strike is weak there (in my opioion) but the high part of crown does apear to have some rub on the cross

Hi Jim

From looking at the grading guide furnished by Walter,, the bands are the crown base ,, the perals are between the diamonds within the bands,, and the second set are often the first to show wear.

Learning the high points of these coins will be a valuable bit of knowledge for me ,, after reviewing the guide, I agree with walter on the grade of the coin, and have also adjusted a couple of other grades on these penny coins.

I might add that I have also adjusted my buying habits on them also !!

Once again !!

I thank everyone for the comments

Rick
