Hi everyone, I am hoping that someone can enlighten me about which TPGs will bestow VAM attributions on GSA holdered coins. Is NGC the only one that will do this? Thanks

Yes - NGC is the only TPG which will grade Morgans in GSA holders at all.

if you have any GSA Morgans NGC would be the place to send it because all other companies crack them out of the original holders and place them in their own and even though they have a GSA designation on the holder its still not a GSA any longer to me

Thanks Dave and Bryan. That is what I feared. Since I would like an attribution even more so than a grade, I guess I will just have to hold my breath until ANACS starts doing GSAs in the holder; right?

It might be a while on ANACS. Don't hold your breath too long as you might turn blue. Of course in the numismatic world, that might be considered artificial toning.

I don't care who ya are, that's funny right there. NGC will attribute the Top 100 and Hot 50 VAM's, at least; this accounts for a large percentage of the value-added VAM's. What's the date and tentative attribution for your GSA coin? It may not be really relevant to the coin's value, and VAM collectors don't generally require attribution on the coin's holder unless they're doing Registry sets.

Hi Dave, It is an 1883 vam-5B. I don't want to sell, I just wanted it for me because I didn't previously have a GSA coin. Not a Top or Hit anything, but I am not into the registry thing. My favorite TPGs are ANACS (because the attributor knows his stuff) and ICG (because they do ancients also), but mainly because both of these TPGs seem to be more in tune with the masses.

Yeah, ANACS has a huge advantage over the competition with John Roberts.
You've got a fascinating variety in that VAM-5b; it's a good example of just how hard they worked to keep a die in service. R-6 to begin with, and definitely an interest-added, if not value-added, coin in the original GSA holder.

Yes, we have not agreed on everything, but I have to admit, the vampicker is in a class all by himself. I have learned much from his articles and posts. As far as the 5b goes, your words mirror my thoughts. Thanks Dave.
