I would like to order the Lincoln dollar/cent set from mint on October 15th. The question to all of you is what do you think the best way to place an order on that day. Should you use the phone and call? If so, what number? Or should you use the website/internet to place an order?
Will they take multiple orders from one person since the limit is one per household?
Thanks everyone for looking and responding to my questions

I plan on using the internet since it would be much easier for me to automate something if the Mint's website gets bogged down. I really, really, really do not like placing orders over the phone.

No, that is the purpose of the one per household limit. The only way to get around that would be to use multiple addresses with multiple credit cards. I would not recommend a phone order, those always seem to be the most problematic. Online ordering is the way to go but make sure you create an account before that day arrives

I agree with creating an account at the US Mint before hand. They also have an option to keep your credit card info and shipping address on hand so that you can "one-click" check out and not have to fill out those forms. My recollection is you will start the ordering process and then be stuck for some reason. You then have to press the refresh button until you can proceed. If you want to increase your odds you can use two computers at once, like your regular PC and a laptop. Or you can go to a library / computer lab and try on six at a time. I've no doubt there are many people who write scripts to do so automagically, but I'm not that computer-knowledgable. I will be missing this one, but good luck to the rest of you, -wheatiefan

I will order online. You will be able to get through on the phone lines.

I'll probably take an early lunch and sit in front of the computer at home with the phone in my ear. Whichever connects first.....

Quote: just dont open multiple tabs trying to get there faster b/c it makes problems worse I noticed That's because that is what a lot of people do and then they just keep refreshing them hoping to get through. So at noon on the 15th, 20,000 people each with five tabs open start refreshing trying to get in and the mints servers get hit with 100,000 requests for service at the same time and is overwhelmed. It becomes in effect a DOS or Denial Of Service attack. Computer viruses do it with a botnet, coin collectors do it in person trying to buy a new issue.

Something I've experianced in the past is that when the browser is supposed to take you to the next page it doesn't display it, but if you login opening a new browser you see you're already at the next step it just doesn't show up is the first page. I think that's why people tend to open multiple pages.

I plan on using the internet to place my order. Hopefully with the "1 per household limit," we can all obtain a set.
I think starting a new thread on the 15th is a great idea.
