While at the supermarket, I stopped by the in-store bank branch. I asked for the usual half dollars and any other "unusual money". He told me he had "a lot" and this got me excited, but also a little worried because I didn't have a whole lot of cash on me. (I had just cashed in my empties - when you're scrounging for nickels, roll hunting isn't easy!) This is what he gave me: (17) Morgan dollars(5) Walkers (5) Franklins (4) 1964 halves (1) 40% silver half (Also - 1976 half) I couldn't believe my eyes! I got nervous that he would realize what he was giving me, so I started talking about virtually anything coin-related - 2009 pennies, the fact that we change cent designs in 50-year intervals, etc. He said an old man had brought them in and neither he nor the cashier had any clue of these coins' value. Here is the year breakdown: Morgans: (4) 1879 (2) 1880 1882 1883 1884 1890 1891 1879-O 1890-O 1891-O 1892-O 1900-0 1921-S The Morgans on the left are P; the ones on the right are O (and the 21-S on the bottom.) Halves: 34 35-S 36 43 44 (2) 61-D 62 (2) 63-D (4) 1964 1969-D (1976) I'd like to know if others have ever found silver dollars in circulation! Peace, Merc

Unbelievable. Just when I think I've read a thread on this forum that can't be topped...here it is. I've often wondered what the chances are of getting something like Morgans from a bank. Congrats!!

As a "searcher I know how sweet this must feel, Congrats, I just can't help but feel this is a direct reflection of the economy, elderly people, obviously clueless, changing in coinage for/and expecting face value!nice find, sad picture.I do not want to rain on the O/P parade, but if you as a son or daughter found out your Dad cashed in His coins for face, I would ask you, "How would you feel", Also, where do you live, what state? Not looking for negative remarks, just as a searcher I know when I find some Halves or some silver dimes in rolls, I am very excited, this is Not the same, and the kicker is No one had a clue as to the worth of these well over one hundred year old coins! just my opinion......

I have found a Franklin half in a roll before, and I have found a nearly solid roll of 40%. I may have been rationalizing, but I always assumed, based on the faded roll paper, that they were turned into the bank back when silver was in the single digits, and the value of them may have not been worth pulling them from circulation. If I were you, I would have had a moment like you see in cartoons, Devil on one shoulder, angel on the other. The devil would be telling me how great those coins would look in my collection , the angel would be telling me that I should tell the bank to try to find that old man and help him in these desperate times . Just my 2 cents that no one asked for.
