In the Charlton catalogue for detailed info. or from beginning to 1967 ( included ) 92.5% silver, from 1967 up to today..none I'm talking about circulation dollars. For all other special issues, see the catalogue above.

Past 67 is not silver? or lower silver content? Or are we talking apples and oranges?
That is some kind of commemorative issue.I don't know that coin.I will look it up tonight.I was talking about the normal issue dollars.

The coin in question is .500 silver, 0.500 copper ( 50% silver , 50% copper).Issue quantity of 484.000 coins.Issued in specimen condition. Commemorates the completion of Library of Parliament. It was issued on blue leather case. Since 1992 the composition was changed to 92% silver. These are called cased silver dollars.

My catalogue says it's blue, but it might be a mistake..who really cares about the case anyway ? The important thing is that maybe that seller should've specify the content of silver, since it's only 50%.The auction is a little bit misleading.I've bought from sellers who didn't know the content of silver, but at least they were stating this fact.

If they do not state the silver content then I go by the assumption that the silver content is .500, I always do that. These are the coins I have... with the red case and black case, proof.... http://cgi.ebay.ca/1976-proof-silve...cmdZViewItem

This seller is even better than the last one : "Gorgeous Silver Dollar in proof condition and made from pure silver".Pure silver ha ? Now,i don't have a coin like this and I can go only by what the book says, but mine doesn't specify a proof version of this coin. But the book could be wrong.

How can you tell if a coin is proof or not?
When it is frosty?

Not really ( even though frosting is part of the process).Proof is a method of manufacturing the coin. Frosting and mirror like fields, combined in this process gives the "proof" name. Go here http://lynncoins.com/proofcoin_article.htmfor more details
