I mostly collect US coins, and don't have a clue when it comes to world coins, which is why I need help identifying this coin. Its really beat up, and probably doesn't have much value, but I was curious about it. I think the date is 1827 or 1823, it's hard to tell. Thanks.

The coin is from Sweden, and it looks to be 1/8 Skilling.
The other side has the monogram for Carl XIV.

There isn't a 1/8 skilling listed in Krause for this period. Unless it's (another) omission in Krause, I'd assume it's a 1/2 skilling. The date, by my reading, is 1827. A 1/2 skilling should be about 30mm diameter.

Krause lists two varieties for that date, with and without hyphens at SKIL- -LING. Yours has hyphens, which is the commoner type. It appears to have been bent and warped; that will pretty much minimize it's value.

The "1/8" was puzzling...that makes more sense to me

G'day,

- Sweden & Norway have a lot of history in common, and for a time, they shared a Monarch.

Add Denmark to the list, and their rule was once intertwined with Norway and Sweden.
Skilling is just another way to write "Shilling", with a similar pronunciation.
