I have always wondered why there's a rooster on the Rev side of this 1952 France coin, and placed prominently. Is there any history behind it? Thank you for the info

It's said to date back to Roman times as the Latin words for the Gauls (Gallus) and the cockerel, cock or rooster (gallicus) were so similar.
Has been used as a symbol of France for centuries. Try google -- france cockerel -- for more info.

G'day, the common domestic chook, chicken, or rooster or hen, is known to the scientific types as "Gallus gallus".
Regarding the use of similar words for the animal, and the place, there may be a certain amount of chicken-and-egg about which came first:
"... The cockerel was already of symbolic importance in Gaul at the time of the invasion of Julius Caesar and was associated with the god Lugus. Today it is an emblem of France and Wallonia. ..." - from Wikipedia
The rooster is a National Icon for the French, and has appeared on their coins from time to time.

The last French coins that had the rooster were these two, issued in 1986.

This was supposed to be a circulation but failed as it was too similar to the half franc piece:

And this is a commemorative piece honoring Robert Schuman, one of the founding fathers of what today is the European Union:

The symbols of France currently used on the country's coins are Marianne, the Semeuse (Sower) and the Liberte - egalite - Fraternite motto with the hexagon. But who knows, maybe the rooster will return to some circulation or collector coin later ...
