I have a general question. Do the Overton numbers not apply to the reeded capped bust halves? 1837-1839

Nope, Overton literally wrote the book for lettered edge Capped Bust halves but Jules Reiver is responsible for the attribution of the reeded edge Bust Halves with his book Variety Identification Manual for United States Reeded Edge Half Dollars so all lettered edge coins have JR numbers. Looking through the Heritage archives, die varieties of the lettered edge coins are much more numerous and more popular than the reeded edge but that might have something to do with the fact that it is a short series of only five business strikes(1836 is rare) and six proofs with mintages of 20 or less.

And if you are wanting the Reiver booklet on the Reeded edge halves it is available on the Heritage website somewhere but it is rather hard to find. Well I take that back, it took quite a while to finally find the link to it on the Heritage website, and that link is now a dead link. I'm glad I downloaded it when it was still available.
