Hello, I bought a coin lot at a tag sale over the weekend. The person was not selling coins and I asked if they had any coins to sell and they sold me a huge coin lot. They said it belonged to their father and new nothing about the coins.

Inside there were 1830 50c - 1834 50c - 1835 50c & 1836 50c Capped bust coins. I have been doing some research and those coins are high value coins. They look beautiful and are those coins worth a lot of money. Any input would be nice.

Thank you,
Steve

We would all love to see pictures of your coins! They sound awesome!

And, yes, some of them are worth some money.

The value really depends on the condition, in lower grades Bust Halves can be had for $40-50 and they go into the thousands when uncirculated. The Capped Bust series also has many different die varieties(termed Overton number varieties) that can be worth multiples of a normal coin. For much of the early 1800s that half dollar was the economic engine of the country as silver dollars and gold coins were in very short supply. Because they were so prevalent in the economy, they are quite affordable considering their age. The best way for us to properly value them would be to post large clear pictures of both sides.

And do NOT clean them. It will lessen their value. Even just wiping them with a cloth or even just your fingers is a bad idea.
