While I am not certain as to the best coin that I have found in circulation, I do know of the best rolls I have ever found. In 2006 I went to a bank out in the country and got two rolls of halves both were BU rolls of 1983 D Kennedy halves.

i found around 35 rolls of 90%'s including an entire set of Franklin half dollars while searching through 3 boxes earlier this year. The oldest I've found in a roll was an 1883 with cents nickel in xf. The oldest I've found from a coin machine was a 1842 large cent in g/vg. I've been seriously searching for 3 years, but I did work for a bank during 2 of those years so that helped a bit. -XoG

I wasn't finished. I found 3 franks, 17 40%ers and 4 90%ers searching 14 rolls. A few months ago. However, my best and most memorable find was 55 silver rosie dimes searching 48 rolls. Also, I pulled 13 silver quarters searching some ~39 rolls. Some results: Oldest half: 1953 franklin Oldest quarter: 1957D Oldest dime:1946 rosie Oldest nickel found in roll: 1916 Buffalo nickelOldest penny: 1936 - coincrazed

I think you should refine your post to sort of include a time line. For example there are members here that just started to collect. Then too, there are members that have been around since coins were invented. Slight exageration. However, for me there are way to many to mention and some really valuable ones. But then too when I started to collect coins the first 43 Steel Cents were hitting the population. That's how I strated collecting. Just loved those Silvery looking pennies.

I am 20, and my best find was a 1909 VDB Wheat cent, which someone paid me with at Wal-mart. It is my avatar coin, and the nice folks here graded it AU-58 RB. Doesn't count as a find, but someone told me today that they gave a customer a "worn down 1901 nickel" as change the other day!

A few Franklins from rolls and (last month) a 1929 Buffalo nickel in VG top my list along with a proof 1983-S Kennedy.
