Going to sell all my rolls, 14, of half dollars - 1964 to 1958 - this weekend at a coin show. Was told that silver halves are only worth the silver value because no intresting dates. These are ms 64 or better and a couple in each roll has fbl. Some have the best rainbow and blue/purple toning that I've seen. Are they really going to scrap these fbl or they just tring to rip me off? Got silver clads that are all in bu as well. Are these scrap silver too? wolf

Assuming they are BU, they are worth more than silver value, no question. Shop them around.

I won't pay a plug nickel for a toned coin.

Everyone has their own opinion on toned coins. Some love them (pay several times book value for great color), some as Force said will not give you a passing look for a toned coin and consider them damaged. So my suggestion would be to shop them around until you find a toning lover and sell them to him. as for the rest, MS64/MS-65 are certainly worth more than silver value. I feel you would be doing yourself a disservice to sell them by the roll. Oh and MS-64/MS-65 FBLs are worth more than regular BU's by quite a bit.

Same guy who told you that has his marked up in the shop though I bet.

However, with the price of silver so high, the intrinsic value might exceed the numismatic value at some point. And depending on the coins, this might be true at this time.

Sell silver lose 10-15% of the spot price ( sellers fee )
Buy silver pay 10-15% of the spot price ( buyers premium )
to a dealer.
Why not nonchalantly watch for somebody who is asking about buying silver and politely and discretely on the side offer them a slightly better price than what your coins are selling for over the dealers table?
Do a deal in the parking lot.
