There are "local coinages" listed in Krause from several Mexican cities and towns during the 1800s; I suspect this may be imitating them. The 1/8 real from Colima described in Krause looks quite different to the one pictured here, but there may have been a scarcer version of the coin that more closely resembles this; I suspect the more specialised varieties of this series aren't listed in the general catalogue.
