Hi All,

I have some Morgan dollars in plastic slabs, some of the holders have got some light scratches on them, Is there anything available in the UK that I can use to get these scratches off?

Thanks

Probably. I'm not in the UK so I don't know what is specifically available but if you go to your local automotive parts store you should find a couple of different plastic polishes. I would think you might do best with one that has both a basic and a fine polish. You might also want to test them on a junker slab first. On bit of advice, do not get the polishing compound around the seam where the two slab shells come together. Capillary action could draw the solution inside the slab.

Basically what has already been noted. In the automotive sections of most stores around the US there are Plastic scratch removers. Now that headlights are encased in plastic lensed housings, they tend to get scratched and turn colors. The colors are usually brownish or tanish. So now there is one more product in these sections for your car. I've tried a few of them and some work better than others. On an auto headlight one of them really did a great job getting rid of the discolorations and small scratches. I've used another one on those little Solar collectors for solar lighting in my yard. Some come out looking new and others only a little improvement.
The thing is all plastics are a little different and so is the products to fix them. Just try the cheapest ones first.

b17commander - Look what you've started! A simple question has led to an at home science project. cownas22 do be sure to let us know as I think this is a question worth some digging (or rubbing) into. If you come up with something that works I already know that next weekend I'll be cleaning my plastic slabs

A ndighbor of mine is an auto machanic and tells me he too uses the stuff from Walmart's auto supply section. I asked which one and he said not sure but it was the expensive one. The two I've been using are only a few dollars but the one he said he uses is about $14. He claimed his works on all platics. And headlights get a lot of scratches.
